Bio

Josh Glass has always been interested in entertainment. He just didn’t realize it right away. It took a High School Film Studies class in Needham, Massachusetts for him to find the enjoyment in creating, filming, producing and editing filmed content. However, at the end of his Needham High School career, he had his eyes set on the world of Journalism.

After enrolling in Boston University, in the College of Communications, Josh took his required Journalism courses, and wrote a few articles for the student paper in his freshman year. It wasn’t until one particular assignment, a lecture by a renowned photographer, that he realized the only part of journalism he really enjoyed was writing. Reporting? Not so much. He decided to test out some of the other majors that COM had to offer, and after taking a Video Production course during his first summer out of college, decided to declare as a television major in his sophomore year.

Around the same time, Josh got involved with a sketch comedy show on BUTV, “Overexposed.” Josh enjoyed writing and editing sketches, and after a few years saw some of his sketches produced and put on the local airwaves on campus. In fact, one particular sketch also reacquainted him with his love of editing.

Fully immersed with “Overexposed,” and enjoying the writing process, Josh took a course in Writing for Television, where he wrote a spec for “Seinfeld.” This was his first real jump into the television writing process, and it was an exciting learning experience for him.

In his Junior year at BU, Josh took a couple courses that would fuel his interest in writing and editing as well as introduce him to an aspect of television production that he had only been exposed to in a small amount – the studio environment. Josh and his TV Studio Production classmates for another BUTV show – an interview show entitled “Full Circle.” Students organized and set-up interviews and later edited them into half-hour episodes. Each segment, a different student would perform the various studio jobs, ranging from director, camera, chyron, sound and everything in between. Once the interview segments were done, Josh also took the lead as the editor for his group, editing one episode all on his own, and coaching his teammates with editing the second.

Josh also took a Video Post Production course this semester, that gave him a small but thorough introduction to many video editing programs, such as Avid, Final Cut, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. Through this course, taught by Avid Developer and Professional TV Editor Frank Capria, he learned a great deal about the editing process, and dealing with strict deadlines set by clients.

In his final semester at Boston University, Josh and some classmates spent four months living and working in Los Angeles. Through the “BUinLA Internship Program,” Josh got the opportunity to work as an intern for both FOX Broadcasting Company, and at NBC’s “The Office.” Both experiences were amazing and memorable, and very educational. By observing a network development office and a network television sitcom on a daily basis, Josh learned a great deal about the industry he desired to start a career in.

After graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Television, Josh moved back out to Los Angeles to get his start in the industry. In the past year and a half, he has been freelancing as an editor and a production assistant, all while working on his writing. He currently works as an Assistant Editor at Bunim-Murray Productions.

In February of 2010, he began taking Improvisational Comedy Classes at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater and began working on some sketches with some friends from class. He wishes to someday work as a staff writer or editor for a network sitcom, and eventually develop and run his own show.
